How Consumers Opt In to Text Messages
Last updated: July 7, 2026
TradeReply AI provides an automated SMS lead-capture service on behalf of small service-business Contractors — HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, and similar trades. This page documents how end users, meaning a Contractor's customers, provide consent to receive text messages through our service.
1. How Opt-In Occurs
Consent is initiated entirely by the consumer's own action. The consumer places a phone call to a Contractor's published business phone number. If that call is not answered, our system sends a single follow-up text message to the same number the consumer just called from, on behalf of the Contractor they contacted.
Step 1. A consumer calls a Contractor's business phone number, publicly listed on the Contractor's website, Google Business Profile, advertising, or signage.
Step 2. If the call goes unanswered, our system sends one automated text message to the calling number, identifying the Contractor by name and asking how it can help.
Step 3. The consumer may reply to continue the conversation, or ignore the message and receive no further texts beyond that single outreach.
Step 4. Every message includes clear opt-out instructions. The consumer can reply STOP at any time to immediately stop receiving messages.
2. Sample Initial Message
Below is a representative example of the first message a consumer receives after a missed call:
Hi, this is [Business Name]! Sorry we missed your call. What can we help you with today? Reply STOP to opt out.
3. Why This Qualifies as Consent
The consumer initiates contact by voluntarily calling the Contractor's published business number for the purpose of requesting service. This inbound call constitutes an existing business relationship and an active inquiry, which the follow-up text directly and immediately responds to.
The text is strictly limited to continuing the conversation the consumer themselves started. It is never used for unrelated marketing, and is never sent to numbers that have not called in.
4. Message Scope
Messages sent through this flow are limited to lead qualification only: collecting the consumer's name, the service they need, their location, and a preferred callback time, so that information can be relayed to the Contractor. No pricing, diagnosis, or promises are made by the automated assistant.
5. Opt-Out and Help
Consumers may reply STOP at any time to immediately stop receiving messages, and will receive a one-time confirmation that they have been unsubscribed. Consumers may reply HELP for assistance. Message and data rates may apply.
